Life in La Plata
It has been about a month now since we have lived in our new home in La Plata. We feel much more settled now. It has been a delight to be close to the people we are ministering to. People can get to our house much easier now than when we lived in City Bell.
What is life look like in this new stage of ministry?
We are getting to have more meetings at our house which is fun because we get to do more ministry as a family. Recently we had around forty people over to eat chorizos (similar to sausages). We cooked them on the grill. You eat them on french bread (it is really tasty!) Some of the guys stayed later and we watched a film with the projector of the office and finished around 2:15 am. It was a good male-bonding time.
Our new office is about 15 minutes from our house via bike (with taxi around 10 min). As a team, we've enjoyed having a good office to work in, study and have classes at the institute. Tonight I have my theology class with seven students from two different churches. We've been using the BTCP book on doctrine, the theology program, Ryrie's book on theology and some other stuff. We just finished studying the wonderful doctrine of God and are beginning to study the doctrine of the Bible. The students are very teachable and hungry.
Last night we had our "elder" meeting (the church doesn't officially use this term but there are four of us -including the pastor- who are functioning as an elder team). We met at our house and had some good discussion on how to shepherd the congregation more effectively, we talked about small groups, dividing the church by ages, etc. We continue to work our way through 1 Corinthians in the mornings and in the evenings we begun a series on the high responsibilities of a church member.
Yesterday in the morning we had our team meeting and we talked about all the trips that are coming. We will be having several from the office come to visit our team in three weeks for encouragement, shepherding, training, etc. It should be a wonderful time! We're really looking forward to it. We're also receiving a group of missionaries for one year beginning in June. Apart from these trips we're receiving a college short-term mission trip, a medical mission trip, and an apologetics trip!! Fun!!
One of our biggest challenges right now as a family has been poor health. Caro has been battling severe allergy attacks, headaches and flu. Alaina has been sick for several days waking up with fever many nights (right now she is better - although her mood isn't quite better yet, she is on my lap as I type this to give mom a break). This has made it challenging for us to move forward in areas. Please for the health of our family during this time!
We so value your prayers! I know its hard to stop in the midst of the business of life and pray. But we really value those of you who take a few minutes to pray for us. As someone said, "More is accomplished through prayer than this world dreams of."
Warmly,
Greg, Caro, Alaina
